Debashish Bhattacharya & Bob Brozman

Today's featured new release is "slide guitar heaven" & much more. "MAHIMA" (divine inspiration through artistic creation") centrally involves BOB BROZMAN & DEBASHISH BHATTACHARYA. New York born, Bob began with the blues, but has long explored many different musics, usually on their home turfs. Debashish is a Hindustani classical virtuoso from Kolkata (formerly Calcutta). Bob regards him as the greatest slide guitarist on earth. Their extraordinary cross-cultural collaboration is enormously good humoured, deliciously playful, deeply lyrical, at times jaw-droppingly virtuosic & audacious, yet irresistibly accessible. Blessedly free of "world" clichés, the CD also carries not a whiff of the "stiltedly reverential". Its two other musicians are Debashish's brother Subhashis - a very inventive percussionist - & their sister Sutapa, whose singing will likely have you swooning one moment and laughing aloud the next. A wonderful, singular album, which also has an uncommonly fine booklet.
