René Lacaille and Bob Brozman: DigDig

Ubiquitous is most definitely the term one might use for Bob Brozman; he seems to be turning up everywhere these days. When I bumped into him and Paul Fisher (of Far Side Music) at WOMAD he was looking a little frazzled, having arrived hot-foot from some continental dates straight into the WOMAD melting pot with it's workshops, radio interviews, PR and live gigs promoting this terrific new album. His collaboration with multi-instrumentalist/singer René Lacaille from the Indian Ocean island of La Réunion brings his inimitable magpie style to an already sumptuous feast. His stateley guitar picking and own-brand Hawaiian slide guitar work perfectly compliment Lacaille's performance as each bounces off the other both musically and culturally. Low-key, infectious tunes from the laid-back to swaying dance tunes are played with understated tasteful excellence - certainly a marriage made in heaven.
