THE PHAT PLANET

Debashish Bhattacharya and Bob Brozman: Mahima

Bob Brozman, the king of the musical collaborators is back again. This time he's teamed-up with Debashish Bhattacharya, the man who's put Indian classical guitar music on the map. When you think of slide guitar you'll probably immediately connect with the blues but the slide style is more ubiquitous than you might think. Here's a meeting of two guitarists from very different backgrounds finding much common ground in their individual approach to a very distinctive sound. Brozman's preferred method of working and recording with his collaborators is to make the process intensive - spending all of the time in one another's company before, during and after the music is recorded. In the relaxed surroundings of Brozman's Californian home the artists become friends and grow bonds which help them to explore their respective musical cultures. The formula clearly works here where boundaries and styles are utterly blurred, creating a fascinating hybrid. The two main protagonists are joined by Sutapa Bhattacharya on vocal and tabla maestro Subhashis Bhattacharya. Here's Debashsish really letting go on the sound clip taken from 'Bahu dur dur'.
